At Bishop’s Castle Primary School, our French curriculum was designed with the intent that all children in Key Stage 2, regardless of background, will enjoy the opportunity to learn to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. Learning languages is proven to promote openness towards other cultures, foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world, which matches perfectly with our school drivers of widening horizons and creating confident communicators, plus providing chances to work independently and with others. Children are encouraged to try language and learn from mistakes. We expect children to evaluate their use of French and consider improvements, continually striving to speak and write the most accurate, challenging French they can and to be proud of their ability to communicate in more than one language.
